St Mary’s House

St Mary’s House is an elegant Georgian property, which has been suitably adapted to provide modern-day care facilities. The house is situated in the market town of Bungay providing easy access to all local amenities. Many rooms have delightful views over the Waveney Valley and surrounding countryside.

We believe we offer a friendly home with a family atmosphere, whilst providing the highest standards of facilities and equipment.

What we offer

  • Residents have a choice of two spacious lounges and dining rooms, both leading onto the patio and attractive enclosed garden. All rooms are decorated to a high standard and each has a distinctive and personalised character offering single or shared accommodation.
  • We are 5 star rated with the Cinnamon Trust and pets can be admitted with their owner following a successful risk assessment.
  • People are welcome to bring personal items of furniture into the house. All the rooms, however, are fully furnished and most have en-suite facilities. Specialist baths or showers are fitted in all wings of the house. A resident-call system is fitted in all rooms. These facilities assure the best in comfort, care and security. Many of the rooms are above average in size and are designed to suit individual needs and requirements
  • For those unable to make the short journey to the town’s Library, a mobile library service is available. Weekly exercise classes are held and in house entertainments are regularly organised as are outings to concerts and places of interest
  • We offer a full range of freshly prepared meals. People’s requirements for special diets or needs are easily catered for.

Our Aims and Objectives

We aim to create a friendly Home with a family atmosphere and to preserve the quality of life of the people who use the service.

Therefore:

  • We will carry out assessments of need that will be used to develop individual care plans with the objective of meeting the aims of the Home for each person.
  • We will provide equipment and competent staff to enable the aims and objectives to become a reality for each person.
  • We will deliver care sensitively and flexibly which reflects’ individual needs and choices of each person.
  • We will respect and retain privacy, dignity and independence, as far as possible, irrespective of the person’s physical or mental infirmity.
  • We will consult as fully as possible, with people, relatives and other involved persons in order to ensure that the stated aims and objectives are maintained.

Our philosophy

The home has adopted a Residents Charter of Rights. Our philosophy is based upon a belief that all people have the right to be treated as individuals. Whilst we require staff to work within basic guidelines and routines this must not institutionalise care. This will be monitored at regular intervals, in full consultation with all people, relatives, staff and visiting professionals.

The specialist needs of people suffering with Dementia will be met by our staff that are knowledgeable and sensitive to their needs. Staff are regularly sent on courses specialising in early and late on-set of dementia. The main tenant of care for these people is the maintenance of dignity, orientation in time and place, safe management of aggression and challenging behaviour and the maintenance and retrieval of skills pertaining to activities of daily living and communication. This is achieved by stimulation, interaction and a supportive environment for both residents and staff.
